GENERAL RULES:
1. All contests must have sanctioning submitted and be approved by the home office. (ie: approval of events, level of show, etc.)
2. All contests must consist of at least 4, 6 or 8 events, as to which half will be strongman events and half will be highland games events.
3. Any of the 9 standard highland game events, or an approved variation of, can be used for the highland game portion of the contest.
4. Divisions available will be Lightweight 200# and below,
Middleweight 201# - 250#, Heavyweight 251# and above, Master (age 40 and above) and Women.
5. Competitors must compete in the division that their weight corresponds too
ie: 245lb. competitor must compete in the Middleweight division, not the Heavyweight division, etc. Women must compete in the Womens division, not in a male division.
6. The scoring system used will be as follows:
for example, if there is 12 competitors, then the below list shows
how they are scored
1st 12pts.---------- 7th 6pts.
2nd 11pts.--------- 8th 5pts.
3rd 10pts.---------- 9th 4pts.
4th 9pts.---------- 10th 3pts.
5th 8pts.---------- 11th 2pts.
6th 7pts.---------- 12th 1pt.
In the event that you are unable to score during an event, ie: unable to clear starting height, unable to lift yoke, etc., then you will receive 0 pts.
In the event of a tie, concerning events with multiple tries, ie: Weight Over Bar, Log Press for Max., the countback method will be used (whoever attained the height or weight in the least amount of tries).
In the event of a tie, concerning 1 attempt tries, you will split the points for the places involved, ie: in the above scoring, if 3rd and 4th places tie, you would split the 19pts., so each competitor would receive 9.5pts.
If the tie involved more than 2 competitors, you would split all points involved, ie: 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th all tie, then you would split the 22pts., so each competitor would receive 5.5pts.
7. In the event of an overall tie for placings, ie: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc., then the placings will be decided by the following:
the competitor with the most 1st place scores, if tied, then the most 2nd place scores, if tied, then continuing on down the line and so on, will be declared the winner of said placing in question. If competitors are still tied through all the placing comparisons, then bodyweight will determine the winner, with the lighter competitor winning said place. If, after using the bodyweight tiebreaker, competitors are still tied, then an extra event will be used that has been predetermined or decided upon by the competitors involved, and the contest promoter.
8. When the events Weight Over Bar (WOB) and Sheaf Toss are used, the competitor may not use the spin. He/She must stand and throw.
9. When Max. events are used (Log Press, Deadlift, etc.), each competitor will be allowed 3 attempts, whether or not they miss the 1st or 2nd attempt.
10. Equipment allowed: Chalk, gorilla grip, tacky, belts, knee and wrist wraps, knee and elbow sleeves, lifting straps (on certain events, not all). Deadlift/Squat suits and briefs are not allowed.
11. All competitors are recommended to wear a kilt, though they are not required.
12. All competitors must have a current North American Highlander Association membership card.
13. Membership cards are good for 1 year from the date of purchase.
14. State records will be kept for each individual contest field. National records will be kept for, and only set at, Nationals.
